Professor Mohammed Al Shafaee is the Vice Dean for Clinical affairs of Oman Medical College, Oman since August 2014. Before that he was at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University. He worked there for 21 years in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health. He served as the head of the department from 2006 to June 2014. He served also as Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs from 2004 to 2006.
He is a professor of Family Medicine and has contributed tremendously to the specialty in Oman and the region. In 2011 he was awarded the certificate of commendation by the Royal College of General Practitioners, London for his outstanding contribution to family Medicine and Primary Health Care nationally and internationally. He is the chairperson of Oman Family Medicine Society, member of Family Medicine Scientific Committee, Chief Examiner of Oman MRCGP International Exam, and member of the Exam Subcommittee of Family Medicine Scientific Committee of Arab Board for Medical Specializations. He is one of the founders of WONCA EMRO. He served as external examiner for Family Medicine in many countries. His research interests center on Diabetes, Autism and Health System Research. He published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
