Professor Amanda Howe is President Elect of the World Organization of Family Doctors , having been Chair of their Working Party On Women and Family Medicine, and Chair of the Organisational Equity Committee. She is currently Vice Chair of Council for the U.K. Royal College of General Practitioners, where she was previously Honorary Secretary and Chair of Research. Her professorial appointment is at the University of East Anglia, one of the newer medical schools in the U.K. and she also still sees patients in a primary care clinic.
Her passion is to make family medicine a recognised and respected component of every healthcare system and medical school. Apart from championing family medicine, medical education reform , and professionalism as a core attribute of good doctors, she has particular clinical and research interests in quality of care, the effective use of education as an intervention to improve care, mental health problems, and patient and public empowerment in health care settings.
