Dr. Mohammed Tarawneh is the Director of Non-Communicable Diseases Directorate at the Ministry of Health in Jordan since 2008. He was the Director of the Cancer Prevention Directorate 2004-2008, Director of Medical Education, 2000-2004 ، Chief of Family physicians and Director of FPTP from 1996 to 2008, and the Ex-Vise chairman of Exam Committee of Family Medicine at the Jordan Medical Board, Vice-President of JSFM.
Dr. Tarawneh earned his MD from Leningrad Medical Institute in 1985. He was certified by the Jordan Medical Board in Family Medicine in 1994, and received a High Diploma in Community Medicine – JOU-1997. In 2001 he received a post graduate Diploma in Diabetes from Cardiff University –Wales.
Dr. Tarawneh played an active role in advocating Family Medicine Training program in Jordan, participated as technical advisor with the WHO for developing and implementing Family Medicine in the EMRO region. He actively participated in the work of different quality of care national committees. He is the president of Jordanian Society for the Protection of Medical Staff since 2011. He also established and worked for National Breast Cancer Screening Programme and national NCD strategic plan.
Dr. Tarawneh has led a number of major projects within the Ministry of Health, including, but not limited to: National Nutritional survey, National Newborn Screening Program, community-Based Diabetic Clinics.
Dr. Tarawneh is the author of over 25 peer-reviewed publications and has delivered numerous scientific presentations at notable national and international conferences. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Jordanian Society for the Care of Diabetes, the Jordan Society for Evidence-Based Medicine, the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), and numerous others. He is a member of Editorial Board of different National and International Medical Journals .He has been awarded several awards of recognition throughout his career.
