Dr Karim Elmasry (BSc. BMedSci. BMBS. MRCOG. CCT.) is a RCOG dual accredited Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and Subspecialist Gynaecological Oncologist.
Having qualified from the University of Nottingham Medical School, he underwent his training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in major teaching hospitals in Nottingham and London including Queen’s Medical Centre, University College London, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital and obtained his MRCOG in 2001. He specialized in minimal access surgery and after obtaining his CCT in Obs/Gyn he underwent a subspecialty fellowship training program in gynaecological oncology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
Since his qualification, Dr Karim has been actively involved in research and has set up international collaborative studies with MD Anderson and Matsui Hospital. He has published in numerous peer reviewed journals and has received international awards for his research.
After joining Tawam Hospital in 2009, Dr Karim was appointed as Chief of Division of Gynaecological Oncology. He was invited by the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi to be a founding member of the Cervical Cancer Prevention and Screening Taskforce to set up and implement a national cervical screening program; this commenced in Abu Dhabi in 2013.
In 2013, he was appointed as Chair the ObGyn Department at Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi to lead the development of the department into the new hospital. In November 2013, his department at Mafraq was awarded the Award for Excellence and Teamwork. In addition he is Chief of Gynaecological Oncology at Mafraq and is Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA.
